With a carefully crafted selection of soul-driven, electronic-tinged records under his sleeve, 20-year-old producer & multi-instrumentalist Hemai released his debut EP “Eyes, Closed” in the summer of 2019, receiving instant support from tastemaker French label TheSoundYouNeed amongst others.
Born and bred in UK’s second capital Birmingham the young Louie Hemus grew up around jazz culture, music and live musicians, and hence was heavily influenced by the greats like Herbie Hancock, The Gilberto’s and D’Angelo to modern day acts like Zero7 and Corinne Bailey Rae. Currently based in London, the producer works closely alongside musical friends and family, with his brother Samuel Hemus on drums being a fundamental part of his project.
It’s safe to say Hemai is starting to find his home within the thriving UK jazz & electronic scene; dropping an official remix for Oscar Jerome’s “Gravitate” at the end of 2019 and being recently titled one to watch by BBC Introducing’s Radio DJ Jaguar on her Hot List 2020. Currently working towards a live set-up on stage, some UK shows and a new series of singles and an EP project for 2020, Hemai is just getting started.
